What are you going to do?

As a Senior Java Developer within the Back Office Tech Team of Nedap in Healthcare, you work on the technical foundation of the largest product in the Ons® Healthcare landscape: Ons Administration. Your team supports the three domain teams that build this product on a daily basis. The mission? Continuously improving the application platform to structurally increase developer happiness across all teams.

In recent years, we have upgraded Java from version 8 to 21, modernized our application framework, and migrated our CI/CD pipeline from Jenkins to GitHub Actions. We are also working on major architectural revisions to make Ons Administration future-proof.

The biggest challenge in the coming year? The transition from a single-tenant, bare-metal environment to a multi-tenant, high-availability container platform. From session management to disk storage and background jobs—everything is being rethought. All of this while our software is used daily by thousands of healthcare professionals across the Netherlands.

Your team

As a Senior Java Developer, you work in the Back Office Tech Team: a small, experienced team with a strong focus on technology. You are given the space and trust to make decisions independently, while also working closely with colleagues to arrive at the best solutions. The team works partly remote and partly from the office, you decide what balance works best for you.

Required skills

As a Senior Java Developer, you play a key role in modernizing our back office and help ensure that healthcare professionals are optimally supported. You are energized by technical depth and enjoy building sustainable, long-term solutions.
In addition, you recognize yourself in the following:
  • Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience as a Java Developer.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Jakarta EE and the latest Java versions.
  • Tooling: Experience with Java, MySQL, WildFly, JSF, Vue, JUnit, Cucumber, Playwright, REST, jQuery, GitHub, or similar tools.
  • Ownership: You are independent and curious—you like to dig deep to get to the core of things.
  • Collaboration: You are a strong sparring partner at senior level and enjoy thinking along about long-term solutions.
  • Structure: You work in a structured way and prevent disruption to production.
  • Language: You are fluent in both Dutch and English.
Good to know: This role is for 32–38 hours per week. Hybrid working is common at Nedap. Together with your team, you coordinate your working hours for a healthy work-life balance. You are expected to be present at least once a week on our campus in Groenlo or at one of our hubs.
